Underlying every healthy, beautiful smile is a comprehensive program of preventive dental care, professional cleanings, and good brushing and flossing practices at home. At our office, we believe strongly in working cooperatively with you to preserve your natural teeth and prevent disease from developing.

Dental Exams

We perform a comprehensive dental exam at every regular cleaning, so we can catch potential problems early and keep others from developing. At our office, dental exams include:

  • Examination of -rays. Radiographs (x-ray images) allow us to see decay and other issues not visible to the naked eye.
  • Oral cancer screenings. We check thoroughly for any early signs of oral cancer, both visually and with a hi-tech screening device.
  • Gum disease evaluation. We carefully examine your gums and the bone around your teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.
  • Examination of tooth decay. We check all teeth for cavities and signs of early decay, and we also examine existing fillings and crowns to make sure they remain in good shape.

Professional Cleanings

Our wonderful dental hygienist, Mary, performs almost all the dental cleanings at our office. She carefully removes plaque and tartar (hardened plaque), which are breeding grounds for bacteria, to keep cavities from forming, after which she polishes your teeth for a clean, radiant smile.

Digital X-Rays

Our office exclusively uses digital x-rays, which are better both for you and for the environment. They reduce radiation exposure by 80-90% compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental x-rays, and because there’s no film, they eliminate the disposal of harmful waste.

Another benefit of digital imaging equipment is that it produces radiographs almost immediately, which means you won’t have to wait while film is developed. X-rays are an important diagnostic tool, and we’ll discuss them with you at your appointment.

Home Care

A beautiful, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime is our ultimate goal when treating patients, and your dental routine at home plays an important role in achieving that goal. A healthy regimen starts with eating balanced meals, cutting down on snacks, and brushing and flossing correctly to control the plaque and bacteria that cause decay. We’ll demonstrate good brushing and flossing techniques at your check-up and answer any other questions you might have.
